detail will be available after the server finishes processing the messages

This week I had deep troubleshooting with my lab environment,

I tried to distribute new packages/applications to my DP’s, noticed that the distribution failed with the following message:

“detail will be available after the server finishes processing the messages”

I have checked the Site Status and saw that Management Point presents several errors:

Product: ConfigMgr Management Point -- Error 25001. Setup failed due to unexpected circumstances

The error code is 80070490
Site Component Manager failed to install this component because the Microsoft Installer File for this component (MP.msi) could not install.

Failed to create virtual directory on the defined share or volume on distribution point “[“Display=\\x.x.x.x\”]MSWNET:[“SMS_SITE=100″]\\x.x.x.x\”. Possible cause: Distribution Manager requires that IIS base components be installed on the local Configuration Manager Site Server in order to create the virtual directory.  Distribution Manager also requires that IIS Web Services be installed on the Distribution Point Server that needs to support Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS).Solution: Verify that IIS base components are installed on the local Configuration Manager Site Server, and IIS Web Services are installed on the Distribution Point Server.

I tried to use on “Nickolaj Andersen” tool which knows to run the ‘Prerequisites’ and install if something is missing.

Unfortunately, it didn’t help me as well.

Then I deleted the DP and the IIS components, afterward I noticed that I got fewer errors, I decided to install the IIS components again, and most important was to enable “WebDAV Publishing

Web Server (IIS) < Common HTTP Feature > WebDAV Publishing.

Initially, when I got the error “Failed to create a virtual directory on the defined share or volume on distribution point” I was sure that NTDS permissions or SCCM permission have changed, it was quite strange, I said to myself, how is it possible the permission has changed? I have checked the permission again, ensured that the user is a member of local admin, all rest best practice. everything was seeming good.

After 15-20 minutes, I noticed that all IIS folder has been created successfully, then I tried to re-distribute the packages/applications again and it has gone probably. And realized that my checklists were the right way to fix it,

Verify permissions, reinstall MP, Reinstall DP, add A/V exceptions, Reinstall IIS components.
